Nigeria Nigerian-Born Bola Oyetunji Named Auditor-General of New South Wales After Margaret Crawford's Tenure

The government of New South Wales in Australia has appointed Mr. Bola Oyetunji, of Nigerian descent, as its new Auditor-General, succeeding Margaret Crawford upon the conclusion of her eight-year term in April. Premier Chris Minns announced Mr. Oyetunji's appointment, highlighting his extensive background in auditing and finance. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), praised the selection, deeming it both deserved and admirable.

Mr. Oyetunji's professional journey is distinguished by his executive leadership roles in auditing, finance, and governance. His career commenced at Deloitte Australia and later Ernst & Young Sydney, where he honed his skills in client management and financial expertise. Subsequently, he joined the Audit Office of New South Wales, where he served as Director for nearly 16 years, overseeing various industries and acting as the Engagement Controller. In March 2018, he was appointed Senior Executive Director, providing strategic oversight in auditing until September 2021.

With a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Ife and a Master of Commerce in Banking and Finance from the University of New South Wales, Mr. Oyetunji's academic foundation complements his professional achievements.

The government's announcement underscored Mr. Oyetunji's valuable experience across all levels of government and expressed gratitude to Margaret Crawford for her significant contributions during her tenure. As Mr. Oyetunji assumes his new role, the Audit Office aims to continue ensuring prudent use of public funds for the benefit of New South Wales.
