The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to compel airline operators to provide compensation to passengers affected by delayed and canceled flights that are not attributed to natural occurrences. Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo announced this during a meeting with airline operators in Abuja.

Keyamo addressed the issue of delayed and canceled flights, emphasizing the inconvenience faced by ordinary Nigerians and the need for accountability in such situations. He highlighted instances where flights were delayed unnecessarily, causing frustration among passengers.

Under the provisions of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Act, airlines will be required to compensate passengers for delays and cancellations caused by human errors or operational issues. While acts of God are exempt from compensation, Keyamo stressed that when the fault lies with the airline, compensation is mandated.

Keyamo also encouraged airline operators to establish effective communication channels to notify passengers promptly about flight cancellations, ensuring transparency and passenger awareness.

This move aims to protect the rights and interests of Nigerian air travelers and hold airlines accountable for service disruptions not caused by unavoidable circumstances
