Olutayo Adesina, a distinguished professor of history at the University of Ibadan, and Abubakar Sani, former head of the department of archaeology and heritage studies at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), have been honored with the prestigious 2023 British Academy global professorship.

This esteemed recognition places them among the eight scholars chosen to conduct groundbreaking research in various fields, ranging from climate solutions in food systems to exploring the rich history of West African communities using museum collections.

Adesina's research will delve into the interplay between nationalist historiography, academic social science, and indigenous knowledge systems, while Sani aims to combine archaeology, museum practice, and stakeholder engagement to study under-researched collections from significant Nigerian sites.

With each recipient receiving £900,000 for their projects, these awards are poised to contribute significantly to academic advancement and global understanding of diverse subjects.
