Nigerian citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have expressed growing frustration over the prolonged diplomatic dispute between Nigeria and the Middle Eastern nation. They are urging the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene promptly and engage with UAE authorities to resolve the ongoing crisis, which has led to a ban on work permits and visas for Nigerians.

The ban has taken a toll on many Nigerians working in the UAE, causing concern about potential job losses and making it challenging for those seeking employment. Numerous Nigerians, including those employed by reputable UAE companies, are now stranded, as authorities have ceased issuing new residency permits and visas.

The diplomatic tensions between the two nations began several months ago, with a visit by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at reconciliation. However, after seven weeks, no significant progress has been made. The key issue revolves around the release of Emirates Airlines' trapped funds, with the airline having over $85 million out of the over $700 million the Nigerian government owes it.

Nigerians in the UAE have appealed to the Federal Government to address their predicament, emphasizing that the visa and work permit bans are primarily a result of the trapped funds, rather than criminal activities by Nigerian residents in Dubai.

As the situation worsens and job losses increase, Nigerians in the UAE are calling for swift action to resolve the diplomatic standoff and restore their ability to work and live in the UAE. The Nigerian government has stated that it is working on resolving the issue through diplomatic channels.
