Multichoice, the broadcasting giant, has announced a price hike for its DSTV and GOtv packages in Nigeria, effective May 1, 2024. This move comes just four months after its last increment, stirring mixed reactions among subscribers.

The new prices affect various packages, with significant increases across the board. For instance, the DStv Premium package has surged from N29,500 to N37,000, while the Compact+ and Compact packages now stand at N25,000 and N15,700, respectively. Similarly, the GOtv Supa+ package has risen to N15,700 from N12,500.

Online reactions to the price hike have been varied, with some users expressing outrage and others suggesting alternative services. Social media users like Kelvin Odanz and @Letter_to_Jack have advocated for exploring other options, citing the availability of alternative entertainment services.

Despite the increase, Multichoice remains a preferred choice for many households, especially for its premium international sports broadcasting, including European leagues and the UEFA Champions League. The company's spokesperson, Caroline Oghuma, emphasized that subscribers can still enjoy their current prices for up to a year with the "Price Lock" incentive.

In light of the hike, PUNCH Online explores alternative entertainment options for Nigerians. These include Star Times, SLTV, Android TV Box, and FireStick, each offering diverse content at varying subscription rates. As the debate over the price increase continues, subscribers weigh their options amidst changing market dynamics
