Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has directed the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to pursue individuals advocating for a military takeover in Nigeria, according to a statement released on March 7 by the Defence Ministry's Director of Information, Henshaw Ogubikean.

Describing those calling for undemocratic change as "agents of darkness," Matawalle warned of severe consequences for anyone caught. He dismissed the notion of a violent change of government by the military, emphasizing their commitment to defending the constitution under the democratic government. The Minister urged those propagating the idea to recognize the military's dedication to constitutional duties and advised them to face the democratic reality.

Matawalle highlighted that isolated criminal incidents, such as attacks on a warehouse and a haulage vehicle carrying food items, shouldn't be a basis for advocating military intervention. He emphasized the military's professionalism and strong civilian-military relationship, urging against calls for a shift from the democratic order.

The Minister affirmed the military's priority of upholding the constitution while condemning any attempts to destabilize the democratic governance in Nigeria.
