The Lagos State Police Command has explained its decision to disperse sympathizers who had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate to mourn the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. According to a statement by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police dispersed the crowd to prevent a recurrence of the EndSARS protests that rocked the nation.

The statement clarified that an agreement had been reached between the police and the organizers of the procession that the Lekki Toll Gate would not be used as a gathering point. However, some individuals violated this agreement by gathering at the toll gate after the procession had concluded at Muri Okunola, Victoria Island.

Efforts to persuade the gathering to disperse peacefully were unsuccessful, leading to the use of teargas by the police to maintain law and order. The police emphasized that no live ammunition was fired, and the teargas was used as a crowd dispersal method.

The statement also highlighted the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of Mohbad's death and warned against any attempts to disturb the peace of the state.

This explanation comes in response to allegations of teargas use during the procession. Mohbad's supporters had gathered to pay their respects, but the situation escalated, leading to police intervention.

The police assured the public of their commitment to providing updates on the investigation into Mohbad's death while maintaining peace and security in the state.
