A rainstorm wreaked havoc in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday, damaging electric poles and cables worth millions of naira. This catastrophe has left more than 40 communities in darkness until the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) can rectify the extensive damage caused.

The aftermath of the storm also resulted in traffic congestion along the popular Oju Ore to Toll Gate stretch on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. Besides the disrupted power supply, reports indicated that the two-hour downpour adversely affected buildings and properties across various parts of the state.

In response to the situation, IBEDC issued a public notice advising residents to steer clear of the damaged infrastructure for safety reasons while their technical team works diligently to replace the affected poles and cables.

The power outage, affecting numerous communities including Lyana Lyesi, Osuke Town, Egan Road, and others, prompted IBEDC to issue an apology for the inconvenience caused and urged residents to avoid contact with the damaged electrical installations.

A viral video capturing the aftermath of the incident depicted the severity of the damage, with utility poles collapsing onto vehicles, including a school bus, cars, trucks, and a tricycle.
