The forthcoming AFCON competition is scheduled to be hosted by Cote d'Ivoire from January 13 to February 11. In addition to the final squad, Peseiro and his counterparts from other nations are also mandated to submit a 55-man provisional squad before the year concludes.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, have been categorised in Pot 2 for the draw. This draw ceremony is slated to take place in Abidjan on Thursday, October 12. During the group stages, the team could face reigning champions Senegal, hosts Cote d'Ivoire, Algeria, Tunisia, or Egypt.

Looking back at their performances, the Super Eagles were eliminated in the Round of 16 during the previous AFCON tournament by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia. Nigeria's last AFCON victory was in 2013 in South Africa. The upcoming AFCON tournament promises to be exciting, with nations competing for the coveted title and the honour of being Africa's best.
