Officials from the London Academy Business School and the University of Sunderland seek approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce degree programs in Nigeria. This move could significantly reshape the educational landscape in the country. The delegation from the University of Sunderland, led by Dr Derek Watson, recently met with the acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, in Abuja. According to a statement released last Thursday, Dr Watson emphasized the University of Sunderland's three-decade-long experience in education, stating that they were the first UK university to market. He also mentioned the importance of adhering to compliance procedures and sourcing credible academics from LABS, qualified teachers and practising consultants to ensure Nigerian students receive an experience similar to their counterparts in England.

Dr Larry Jones-Esan, the President/Director of Studies at the London Academy Business School, also highlighted the importance of their visit to the NUC. He emphasized the critical need for recognition, as any degree offered in Nigeria with it would be valid and prevent students from participating in the NYSC. Dr Jones-Esan recognized the vast opportunity in Nigeria and the challenge where two million Nigerians apply for university admissions annually, but only 700,000 secure a place. He also reiterated the importance of the partnership between the two educational institutions.
