Nigeria Ukraine Extends Helping Hand: 25,000 Tons of Wheat Donated to Alleviate Nigeria's Food Crisis

In a significant move to address the escalating food crisis affecting over 1.3 million people in northeast Nigeria, Ukraine has extended a lifeline by donating 25,000 tons of wheat to the nation.

This donation, part of Ukraine’s humanitarian initiative 'Grain from Ukraine,' led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, aligns with the United Nations World Food Programme's efforts in northeast Nigeria amid soaring inflation and food prices.

The collaborative effort involving the United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Norway, Republic of Korea, and Sweden facilitated the transportation and distribution of the wheat.

WFP's representative, David Stevenson, expressed gratitude, emphasizing the need for collective action to restore agricultural potential and stability in the conflict-affected region. The wheat donation, combined with cash and other commodities, will address the immediate food and nutrition needs of crisis-affected individuals for two months.

The initiative garnered support from the British High Commission and underscores the importance of global solidarity in alleviating rising food insecurity in Nigeria."
