Eight months and one week have passed since the tragic death of medical doctor Vwaere Diaso due to a failed elevator at General Hospital, Odan, Lagos State. Despite the incident, investigative journalism outlet FIJ reveals that the elevator remains unfixed or replaced.

Workers residing in the 10-storey building, where the elevator is situated, have resorted to using the stairs since August 2023 when Diaso lost his life and the state government sealed off the elevator area.

The area is cordoned off with a wooden structure bearing a signpost from the Lagos State Government, indicating it as a restricted construction site. FIJ's report has sparked anger among Nigerians, with many expressing dismay and frustration over the lack of action to rectify the situation.

Some criticize the government and question its priorities, while others suggest legal action against the authorities and the hospital management for negligence. Additionally, concerns are raised about the safety of workers and the overall maintenance of public infrastructure in Nigeria.

The ongoing silence and inaction from relevant authorities further fuel public outrage and demand for accountability.
