The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria National Office has announced plans to transition its WASSCE for Private Candidates from a Paper and Pencil Test to a Computer-Based Examination (CBE). The move aligns with global best practices and will debut with the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series, scheduled for February 2024. While Objective Tests will be entirely Computer-Based, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will adopt a hybrid format, presenting questions on screen with candidates providing answers on paper booklets.

The examination will take place in urban centers, considering candidates with special needs, and registration starts on December 18, 2023. To familiarize candidates with the new platform, a Mock Examination is set for February 2024. WAEC encourages prospective candidates to enhance their computer skills and embrace this educational innovation, envisioning a future where all its examinations will be computer-delivered.
