Tragedy struck in Barkin-Ladi, Jos yesterday when fifteen teenagers between the ages of 12 to 16 were crushed to death in the early hours of the morning by a commercial vehicle conveying maize to the market. Nine others were injured.
The children were members of the Boys and Girls Brigade of about three churches and were having a keep-fit jogging exercise when the vehicle lost control and rammed into them, killing fifteen instantly.
The driver of the vehicle took to his heels after the incident.
The churches have cancelled all weekend services to mourn the fifteen.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Felicia Anslem said investigations had commenced to track down the runaway driver.
