6 Projects President Buhari Has Commissioned Since He Took Over Power

Nigeria’s President, Mohammadu Buhari was handed over power May 29, 2015 by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, of the People Democratic Party. It was the first time in Nigeria that a democratically elected president would hand over power to an opposition party. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration had some laudable projects credited to his 6 years tenure. One year and two months already, here is a look at the projects President Buhari has commissioned since he took over civilian power.

1. Ogoni Clean-up Launch: On June 2, President Buhari flagged off the clean-up of the oil-devastated region of Ogoni in Rivers State. The clean up signals the president’s commitment to the oil region despite continuing flashes of violence by militants opposed to his policies. The actions of the militants styled as the Niger Delta Avengers; NDA have brought down the country’s oil production levels to a 20 year low.

2. Road Project in Zamfara: President Muhammadu Buhari on July 13 commissioned some big road projects in Zamfara state. He did this in the presence of the Northwest region governors. Among those present during the commissioning were Governors Abdulaziz Yari, Aminu Tambuwal, Aminu Bello Masari, Bagudu Atiku of Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Kebbi states respectively.

3. Abuja-Kaduna Railway: On Tuesday, 26 July, President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the Abuja-Kaduna railway for commercial operation. The Kaduna-Abuja railway system was conceived and started by the erstwhile administration of President Goodluck Jonathan but completed by the current administration of President Buhari. It is Nigeria’s first high speed rail, that will run on speeds greater than 100 km/hr for both cargo and human coaches. The rail line is valued at $1.04 billion.

4. Calabar-Katsina-Ala Highway: President Muhammadu last year October launched the 260-kilometre Calabar-Kastina-Ala Super Highway road project at Obung, Cross River. At the event, the President expressed the hope that the road would create a new vista of business opportunities for Cross River and the nation at large while launching the project.

5. Ogun State: In February, President Muhammadu Buhari, was in Ogun State for the 40th anniversary of the state. He commissioned projects executed by the Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration.

6. Lagos state: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in May Lagos stood in for President Muhammadu Buhari to commission a series of projects by the Lagos State government. Prof. Osinbajo commissioned the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA)’s Response Unit and some equipments procured by the State government for the Unit, as well as some security patrol vehicles and motorcycles. Osinbajo also commissioned the newly constructed Ago Palace Way, Okota.
