Samsung smartphones are currently one of the very best in the world. Samsung has dominated the world’s Smartphone market for the past five years and its major competitor is Apple Corporation. In recent times, Samsung has lost considerable portions of its market share to its fiercest rival, Apple Corporation as well as other Smartphone manufacturers in different countries of the world. One of the major reasons responsible for Samsung’s poor performance was the failure of its previous flagship Smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, to gain wide spread acceptance in different parts of the world.

Samsung’s current struggle has allowed Apple to consolidate its grip on the world's Smartphone market share. In January 2015, Apple posted the biggest profit in corporate history in its first fiscal quarter ending Dec 27, 2014, with over $70billion realised in revenue. Apple’s was able to sell 74.5 million iPhones during its first fiscal period and its iPhone sales contributed significantly to its record-breaking profits. Surprisingly, Apple’s record-breaking profits came amidst Samsung declining sales and corporate struggle. The major reason could be that Samsung mobile was steadily losing loyal customers to its longstanding rival, Apple, due to declining sales of its previous flagship Smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung hasn’t given up yet on getting back its market share. At the Mobile World Congress 2015, currently underway in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung unveiled its latest flagship Smartphone – Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. These two smartphones come with the same features and the only notable difference is in their screen design and pricing. Galaxy S6 Edge comes with one side of its screen slightly curved and it also commands a higher price than the basic Galaxy S6. These are 6 Reasons you will want the Samsung Galaxy S6.

1. Significant improvement in Camera Quality

Have you ever tried capturing fast-paced events or moments on camera, only to miss that perfect snapshot because your Smartphone’s camera failed to activate on time? Not to worry, as the new Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphones features one of the world’s fastest Smartphone cameras. It only takes 0.7 seconds to activate, and it comes with a 16 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. The rear camera comes with optical image stabilisation feature and live HDR, and it is one first smartphones to introduce automatic focus tracking. Nigerian photo enthusiasts will get a much improved photography experience using the Galaxy S6’s camera.

2. Posh design using Glass and metal

Those that have complained bitterly about Samsung’s consistent use of cheap plastics in their Smartphone designs can now heave a sigh of relief. The Samsung Galaxy S6 now comes in a metal frame design with a much improved corning Gorilla glass panel. This adds premium quality to its design as well as adequate anti-scratch protection. Its posh design allows you to look iPhone and HTC Smartphone owners in the eye and still hold your own.

3. Wireless Charging is now practicable

Many Smartphone manufacturers claim that their smartphones are capable of wireless charging. The truth is that wireless charging technology is still fledging; it hasn’t been perfected yet by most Smartphone manufacturers. Samsung is one of the very few companies thought to have perfected the wireless charging technology and it claims that the Galaxy S6 is the world’s first Smartphone to embed both the PMA and WPC's Qi wireless charging standards. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have fully implemented the wireless charging functionality and are ready to go.

4. Improved Display

Samsung has raised the bar when it comes to screen displays. For starters, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge come with a 5.1-inch screen which renders extremely sharp displays using its 577 ppi with its quad HD resolution. This surpasses its previous flagship Smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, which has a ppi of 432 as well as the iPhone 6 plus, with a ppi of 401.

5. You have alternatives

Generally, customers like to have options when it comes to making purchases. Apple has realised this need and have successfully keyed into this concept with the release of its iPhone 6 and iPhone plus smartphones, and this strategy helped Apple smash the revenue record in corporate history. Samsung has responded well with the unveiling of its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. They basically have the same features, but the Galaxy S6 edge has one side of its screen curved, allowing you to get a clue of your notifications even when the phone is lying on its screen.

6. Secure mobile payment platform

Although Samsung did not pioneer the mobile payment platform, they aren’t taking a laid-back approach in this regard. Samsung has made its intentions clear to the more established mobile payment platform giants, Apple and Google, with its recent acquisition of LoopPay. LoopPay’s unique technology allows it to work with any standard magnetic stripe credit card reader. The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with SamsungPay payment platform and would be instrumental in Nigeria’s quest to implement its cashless policy.

Samsung has definitely upped the ante in Smartphone technology. Amid these amazing features lie noticeable drawbacks: The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge lack water resistant technology, which was available in its previous flagship Smartphone, the Galaxy S5. They do not have removable battery covers as well as microSD slots for external storage. Nigerians shouldn’t be surprised with these exclusions; all phones can’t pack all available technology at a time. Some features have to be traded for others. Currently, there is no information about their prices and it’s yet to be seen if these smartphones would be fully accepted by Nigerians.
