The Northern Elders Council, NEC stated that the media reports "credited to some politicians of the existence of a fake Boko Haram leader whom the military will produce to discredit some other politicians,’’ are a fairytale and should be ignored.
This was contained in a statement signed by the PRO of NEC, Ambassador Yusuf Mamman and it said: ’At this period of our success (against Boko Haram insurgents) what is not required is overheating the polity; rather we must all join hands to support our military to rout out this agents of destruction and merchants of death.’’
’The Council joins the House of Representatives in applauding Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the Nigerian Military for stepping up the fight to end insurgency in the country.
‘’We further condole the families of those that lost their lives in the entire insurgency saga, as well as the recent Potiskum and Kano suicide bombings while we condemn in strong terms such unwarranted attacks.
‘’The council notes with delight the resolve and efforts of the military generals to capture Shekau alive as a means of ensuring the quick resolution of the scourge.
‘’Let us use this medium to call on politicians to close ranks and join the campaign for the success of this military effort.
‘’We appreciate the efforts of the stakeholders in the terror stricken area, for their cooperation towards the renewed break through by the military.
‘’We also commend Mr. President through the Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo for organizing a sensitization meeting with religious leaders on the need to ensure violent free March 28 and April 11, 2015 general elections.’’
