Colombia will face the host country,Brazil in the quarterfinals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament after defeating Uruguay 2-0 in their second round clash on Saturday.

A goal in each half was the difference between the two South American Nations playing out a derby at a packed Maracana stadium.

Monaco star man James Rodriguez was the pick of the bunch shining way above other players on the pitch as he lifted Colombia with his sheer ingenuity.

Colombia were the better team, more composed and looked very threatening each time they transited with the ball.

Uruguay on the other hand looked out of sorts and lacked ideas especially in the final third of their team.

In a week that Luis Suarez was sent home and banned for nine matches for his biting incident,it was evident that they missed his surging runs in attack as Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani didn't come up with the goods.

It was Rodriguez who stole the show, scoring a beauty for his first goal of the game when he brought down the ball with his chest at the edge of the box before volleying in an unstoppable shot into the net to beat Fernando Muslera.

He got the second goal in the second half tapping in a Cuadrado's knock-down to send his side two goals up.

A late pressure from Uruguay wasn't enough to beat Ospina in goal, who made two saves off Maxi Perreira and Cavani.

It is the first time that Colombia is qualifying for the quarter-finals of the World Cup in their history.
