The importance of breastfeeding cannot be overemphasised as it aids in the development of the human body, just as it protects from respiratory infection and cancer, according to Professor Geaorge Akpedi, the Chief Medical Director for Irruah Specialist hospital in Edo
State.

He spoke at the opening ceremony of the World Breastfeeding Week.

Breastfeeding also reduces a woman’s chances of developing neo-plastic diseases such as uterine, breast and ovarian cancers. It also establishes an emotional bond between mother and baby.
