Suleiman Hassan, one of the two names sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation as Ministers is one of the 46 non-career ambassadors the President nominated months ago.

In January Buhari nominated a host of non-career ambassadors and Hassan was one of them. Representing Gombe, Hassan was confirmed by the senate and as such is already an ambassador designate.

However, on Wednesday, he was again nominated for a ministerial position by Buhari via a letter sent to the senate.

Suleiman Hassan: Ex-CPC Chairman, Now Buhari's Ministerial Nominee

He was chosen to replace former Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, who is now the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

A presidency source according to Premium Times said Mr. Hassan as a ministerial nominee despite the fact of his being an ambassador-designate was not a matter of confusion or lack of due diligence.

He said it was due to the agitation of the CPC part of APC who wanted a position in the government.

Once the Senate confirms Mr. Hassan minister, the President would withdraw him as an envoy-designate, another source added.
