Sports Capital One Cup: Chelsea off to Wembley after beating Liverpool 1-0

Chelsea have qualified for the final of the Capital One competition after beating Liverpool 1-0 (2-1 aggregate) at Stamford Bridge.

An extra time goal by Branislav Ivanovic was the defining factor in the match, with Chelsea overpowering a resilient Liverpool side.

Liverpool produced one of their best performances of the season, holding out Chelsea at their own ground.

However, Jose Mourinho's team themselves responded in equal measures and bounced back from their shock FA Cup loss last Saturday.

Phillipe Coutinho had a glaring chance to have put Liverpool in front in the first half, but ended up drawing a spectacular save from Thibaut Courtois.

While Simon Mignolet produced the best moment, making a timely tackle off the legs of Diego Costa, with the ball looking like it would end in the net.

With both teams playing out a 0-0 draw in regulation time, extra time was enforced .

And it was then Chelsea left Liverpool behind with Ivanovic rising high to head in a free-kick that sealed the deal for the Blues.

Chelsea will now play the winner of the tie between Sheffield United and Tottenham at Wembley next month.
