The proposed five per cent insurgency fund for northern states of the country by delegates at the on-going national conference has been described as a move capable of encouraging terrorism in the country nationwide.
The Executive Director, Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged, CENTREP, Oghenejabor Ikimi, in a statement made available to National Mirror in Asaba, yesterday, said that such move should be jettisoned. “The panacea to Nigeria’s underdevelopment and disunity lie in practicing true federalism, resource control and regional autonomy.”
Ikimi noted that the fallout on the debate on resource control and the proposed derivation from 13 per cent to 18 per cent for oil producing states by delegates has however buttressed that there is an agelong mistrust and animosity existing between people of the southern and northern Nigeria.
