Sports Did Brown Ideye make a mistake moving to West Brom?

Week after week it looks as though Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye made a big mistake by joining midlands club West Bromwich Albion.

Joining West Brom in the summer for a record transfer fee of £10million, the former Dynamo Kyiv striker was expected to hit the ground running, but so far he has struggled to settle in.

By moving to West Brom, Ideye joined the league of Nigerian players who have crossed paths at the Hawthorns.

Kanu Nwankwo, Ifeanyi Udeze,Osaze Odemwingie are the other Nigerian players who played at West Brom.

Victor Anichebe is the other Nigerian player to have played for West Brom(although he is still there), none amongst the four appeared to have struggled to adapt to life there more than the travails Ideye is witnessing at the moment.

Yes it could be said that switching countries could have hampered Ideye, the problem is that he is not even getting the games he needs on the pitch to help him ease in to life.

West Brom's coach Alan Irvine admitted to not having seen Ideye play before the player was bought in August.

So it could be safe to say, that Ideye might not have been his player, especially as coaches have preferences for the type of players they move in on.

Fair enough, West Brom have an avalanche of attacking options, Victor Anichebe, Saido Berahino, Stephane Sessegnon, but it is difficult understanding why Ideye can't force his way into this team.

With the exception of Berahino(his form has dipped of late) the other strikers don't seem to have done tremendously well for Ideye not to be in the team.
Ideye has started just twice in the Premier League and is yet to score a goal for in the EPL for his team.

Encouraging for Ideye, Irvine says he is making a steady progress in training and finding the kind of form that they require of him

“He’s actually trained the best he has trained in the last couple of weeks,” said Irvine.

“That’s not in terms of his application, which has always been good, but in terms of his effectiveness.

“So he’s certainly looking more like what we would hope he would look. He has scored goals in training.

“There was a time when he was struggling to do that. And I think he is feeling a lot better about himself.”

West Brom are not firing at the moment, and they need goals in order not be flirting with the prospect of moving down into the relegation zone.

To be able to do that, they really need Ideye to be on his feet and get goals for them.

By no means could Ideye be termed a flop at the moment(at least he himself has said so) his antecedents at Sochaux and Dynamo Kyiv has proven that he can score goals, so he can still do it for West Brom.

A good run of games could help him fire West Brom up the table.
