Sahara Reporters alleges that President Jonathan and Ms. Madueke, Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum, are working on a scheme to avoid elections after a 'sobering meeting' the president had with PDP government and top party members on Thursday.
The general consensus, it is alleged, was that the elections would not favor the president despite the 6-week postponement.
Sahara Reporters says its source, close to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that the President's plan is driven by the desperation of the petroleum minister, who is afraid that the axe of prosecution would fall on her if Jonathan is not re-elected.
"The Petroleum Minister is reportedly worried that she would not be able to avoid prosecution for several questionable deals in the oil sector that have catapulted her and her minions to billionaires," says Sahara Reporters. "Her fear is reportedly heightened by the fact that she does not see the prospect of being granted asylum in any European or North American nation should she decide to flee abroad if Mr. Jonathan loses."
