Sports Ebola Scare: CAF stops Gabon from blocking Nigeria entering their country

It took the intervention of the Confederation of African Football(CAF) before Nigeria's Golden Eaglets were allowed into Gabon yesterday because of the fear of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease.

The Golden Eaglets are due to play a game today in Libreville against Gabon, with the winner qualifying for the African Under 17 Championship, but they had to pass through hell to get there.

Gabon refused the Nigerian contingent an entrance into their country, even mandating an airline company to disembark them in Lome,Togo and not bring them into their country.

With Nigeria having recorded Ebola deaths,Gabon wanted to isolate them from entering country.

But the NFF wrote to CAF who in turn mandated Gabon to allow the Nigerian team entrance.

“At last we are in Libreville and by the grace of God we are playing our match tomorrow (Sunday) and we remain focus about getting the job done,” stated Tayo Egbaiyelo, Golden Eaglets’ secretary, in a statement .

The Golden Eaglets are currently on the pitch for the qualifiers.

It will not be the first time that a Nigerian team will be suffering from such stigmatization, with the country pulling of the Youth Olympics in China and also the Wrestling championship in Uzbekistan following the bad treatments they got.
