Politics Edo Decides: Suspense, Tension As Residents Await Next Governor

Tension, suspense, accusations among candidates, parties and residents as Edo State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) begins collation of results from across the 18 Local governments in the state’s governorship vote held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, Mr. Sam Olumekun, told journalists, late Wednesday, after a closed-door meeting with a National Commissioner and two Resident Electoral Commissioners at 11.20 p.m, that the collation would begin on Thursday, meaning that the citizens have to wait a little more to know who becomes the next governor of the state.

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, respectively, have been touted has the leading contenders.

The two candidates and the incumbent Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, won in their respective polling units in contrast to the National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, who lost at his polling unit.
