Nigeria - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to commence investigations into the sources of a fictitious letter calling for a witch hunt of leaders of the opposition party, the All Progressive Congress.

The letter had asked EFCC to beam it's searchlight of graft on frontline APC members like former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bola Tinubu, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State amongst others.

Doubting the letter's authenticity, EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said “the objective of the fake letter is clear; anybody who sees this letter will believe that the present government of President Goodluck Jonathan wants to use the EFCC to fight the opposition. This is clear forgery.”

“Though we don’t know the messenger (sources), we know their objectives. There is no such investigation by the commission. Ab initio, we have stated that the commission will not be used for any political contest,” Uwujaren maintained.

He assured that the commission will go the whole hog in fishing out those behind the fictitious letter.
