Egypt Health ministry says 525 people were killed and 3,717 injured on Wednesday when security forces stormed Islamist protest camps in Cairo after a stand-off that lasted weeks.

However, the official toll only includes bodies were sent to hospitals.

The death toll includes 43 policemen who died in violence across the country and 202 protesters killed in the Rabaa al-Adawiya protest camp, senior health ministry official Khaled al-Khatib said on Thursday.

“Eighty-seven also died in Giza and the rest elsewhere across the country,” Khatib said. Giza is the Cairo district where police broke up another Islamist sit-in on Wednesday.

Supporters of President Mohammed Morsi, who was ousted last month, say more than 2,000 died.

There have been reports of disputes between bereaved relatives and officials entrusted with documenting the causes of death.
