Sports Egypt Withdraws From Bidding To Host The 2017 African Nations Cup

Egypt have pulled out from bidding to host the 2017 African Nations Cup tournament.

Three countries were considered to be the favourites in the running for the hosting rights, but Egypt's withdrawal has now narrowed it down to Algeria and Ghana.

Sports minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz, revealed that they are backing out of the race and would now support Algeria to win it.

“We have decided to withdraw our application and will support that of Algeria,” he said.

There are reports that the reason could be because both Egypt and Algeria are two Arab nations, with one having to step down for the other.

Also the constant fans' unrest in Egypt has been factored, with the latest tragedy that claimed lives during an Egyptian League game that left 22 fans dead on 8 February, when police and supporters clashed before a game between Cairo clubs Zamalek and ENPPI.

The Confederation of African Football(CAF) is expected to name the winner of the hosting rights on April 18th.
