The late Justice was appointed as the acting President, Court of Appeal in August 2011 following the controversy that led to the exit of his predecessor, Justice Isah Ayo Salami.

He made history as the first President of the Court of Appeal to have acted in interim capacity for about 15 months, retiring in 2012 and was replaced by Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.
