Politics Falana Writes to House of Reps - Do Not Investigate Jibrin

Popular Nigerian lawyer, Femi Falana has kicked against the house of Representatives' decision to investigate Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin over his budget padding allegations.



PREMIUM TIMES reports that Falana wrote a letter to speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, demanding an immediate discontinuation of the probe.

Falana, who is Mr. Jibrin’s lawyer, said in his letter that Mr. Dogara should disband the committee because its constitution contravened the house rules.

Citing order 9 rule 5 of the House, he said Mr. Dogara lacked the powers to constitute a panel over a matter that was before a court.

Irrespective of the side you take, every member of the house is a suspect in this case. I see no reason why a 'principal officer' like Jibrin should not be probed. Its a democracy.
