Former Champions of the Federations Cup,Enyimba on Wednesday defeated Shooting Stars 3-1 at the Area 3 field Abuja,to eliminate the Oluyole Warriors out of the competition.
Stand-out performer for the People’s Elephant was,Sokari Kingsley, who gave 3SC a lot to worry about, opening the scores for Enyimba in the 23rd minute, and also carving out an assist to lift his team victory.
Enyimba doubled their lead just minutes to the end of the first half, through Andrew Abalogu, who made it 2-0 before the break.
If there were doubts over the superior team,it was made clearer when Enyimba made it 3-0 after the break through Chimezie Amanfor, with Sokari setting him up for the goal.
But former Enyimba player,Gbolahan Salami, still had a say in the game, scoring a consolatory goal for 3SC in the 64th minute to hand the Ibadan side a lifeline.
It wasn’t enough though,as the task was made more difficult when Moses Ogaga, was shown a red card, for a second bookable offence, for simulation.
With the win,Enyimba have now booked their qualification into the quarter finals of the 2013 Federations Cup,and will play against Nasarawa United in the last eight.
Also joining Enyimba in the last eight is the defending champion of the competition,Heartland and also Kano Pillars.
