Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, on Monday said Federal Government alone would not be able to effectively provide the fund and infrastructure needed by its Universities.

Ambali said this in Ilorin while inaugurating the N62.7 million hostel built by the Academic Multipurpose Co-operative Society of the university.

He urged relevant stakeholders to rally round and contribute their quota to the education sector.

Ambali said that the hostel would go a long way in easing the accommodation problem facing students on the campus.

"What you have demonstrated is a clear example of good leadership that is abundant in this university. This university is better by far because of people like you. You cannot readily find the calibre of staff this University is blessed with elsewhere. Continue the good work, Nigeria needs people like you".

The Vice Chancellor noted that while staff unions elsewhere were busy taking the management of their institutions to court, those of the university had been working hard to uplift the institution.

He commended the quality of the structure, adding that it indicated that the lecturers were abreast of the needs of their students.

Ambali advised other cooperatives to emulate the good work done by the Society.

In his address, the President of the society, Prof Noah Yusuf, said the project was part of their contributions toward tackling the accommodation problem facing students of the institution.

He said also that the hostel project would boost the financial base of the Society
