Ghana's energy situation has gone from bad to worse following a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria to 45 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) from an anticipated 120 mmscf, GhanaWeb says.

According to TV3’s Sandra Amarquaye Nigeria is struggling to meet the contractual agreements to supply gas through the West African Gas Pipelines following a recent strike by oil workers in Itoki.

Though gas supply rose after the strike action was called off, it has since reduced and currently seems to have taken a toll on the ongoing power rationing exercise as most of the Ghana’s thermal plants are undergoing maintenance works.

That is compounded by the bad inflows of the two of the country’s hydro-electric dams at Bui and Akosombo.

The total energy deficit recorded as of Monday was 480 megawatts (MW).

Already, some consumers have complained about Electricity Company of Ghana’s inconsistency over its load shedding schedule.
