Michelle Obama joins the list of the famous hacked by Exposed.su
BBC – Hackers have broken into the networks of a large US data broker, stealing millions of social security numbers including US First Lady Michelle Obama’s ID details.

A journalist, Brian Krebs has been able to trace and discover that the information leak was the work of hackers who run an online market for private and confidential data.

How do they do this? According to Krebs, they get their data by breaking into computers in the corporate networks of data brokers.

Since March this year, Krebs (along with the FBI and the US Secret Service) had begun to make investigations into how the website, www.exposed.su was getting the social security numbers and other personal details of famous Americans.

This untraced website (which has now been closed down) has, in the past, published confidential information about Beyonce Knowles, Aston Kutcher, Bill Gates, Jay-Z as well as for many others.

The investigations revealed that exposed.su bought confidential information from another website called SSNDOB, which advertises itself as a one-stop-shop for that kind of private information. SSNDOB sells data for people for as little as 50cents or 30p. So far, about 4 million American individual records have been stolen by this website.

Krebs, however, revealed that SSNDOB itself got attacked in the summer and had its own database stolen, copied and distributed.

The FBI has said they are looking into the breaches, but gave no further details to go by.
