Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe has come out to refute the story trending online attributing a statement comparing President Jonathan to Mandela to him.
He said this on SaharaTV during the weekend. He said that the AIT program he appeared on was pre-recorded a day before Mandela even died, so he couldn't have said what the internet says he did.
“Just because it was on the web does not make it right,” Dr. Doyin Okupe said.
He described president Jonathan as a unique leader in his own respects and added that he compared Jonathan's humility with the late Mandela's. He also stated that the president is incapable of doing evil to anyone.
He defended the SSS' decision to arrest Dr Junaid Ibrahim, saying that no government should stand and watch the life of a Nigerian citizen being threatened. He argued that a man like Junaid should be behind bars.
Commenting on SSS' arrest of Dr Emmanuel Fashakin, a Nigerian medical Dr based in the USA, Okupe observed that the Dr was arrested because of his writings aimed at inciting Nigerians against their leaders. Supporting the arrest, he said that a man like Fashakin shouldn't be welcome in Nigeria.
Speaking on the ASUU strike, Dr. Okupe called on Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off their strike and return to work. He also trivialized the threat the FG made through the minister of education of firing any lecturer who failed to resume work.
“Governments all over the world when pushed to the wall will do anything to preserve their integrity and protect their citizens,” Dr Okupe rationalized.
