The palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Sulu Gambari, was in chaos on Sunday as angry citizens reacted to a cleric's defence of the Kwara state government over non-payment of workers' salaries.

Mid way into this year’s traditional “night of prayers” program, a cleric drew the ire of citizens when he rose to defend the government over its inability to pay workers’ salaries.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the crowd went berserk, disconnected the venue's electricity connection and threw chairs at dignitaries who were at the event.

The Secretary of Sheikh Alimi Foundation, Abdulazeez Arowona, corroborated the incident in a statement, NAN added.
