The INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega held a town hall meeting in Abuja on Monday, the 16th of March 2015 where he addressed issues surrounding the elections and his future as INEC chairman.

On the rumors about his being under pressure to resign, he said quite simply: "I am not under any pressure to resign," adding that temporary leave is voluntary and it would be absurd for him to retire at a point where his constitutional duty is at its peak. He allayed fears by emphasizing that no one had told him to go on terminal leave.

"Everybody in INEC is focused on the efforts to deliver the best elections in the history of the country," he said, and this makes it quite important to use the card readers because "if we don’t use card readers, we will lose respect and credibility. We will be going back to old ways when alteration of results were possible."
