The newly formed Northern Elders Council, or NEC, a body set-up to champion the 2015 cause of President Goodluck Jonathan in the north, has condemned its arch-rivals, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF.) The rift is over the latter body’s stand on Jonathan’s power struggle with some northern governors and politicians.
In a press statement released in Abuja, Ambassador Yusuf Yaro Mamman, on behalf of the Jonathan financed NEC that is under the leadership of Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, stated in part, “The attention of the Northern Elders Council is drawn to the news items jointly signed by the Arewa Consultative Forum, (ACF,) and Northern Elders Forum (NEF) Secretaries Col. John Ubah (rtd) and Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed on the current imbroglio between some Northern Governors and the Presidency.”
