The Kaduna state government has sacked 4,776 district and village heads (including their workers) in the state in a bid to lessen its financial burden.

Commissioner for Local Government, Jafaru Sani, said the decision was sequel to recommendations of the committee that reviewed the number of the traditional heads.

"The restructuring was done to reduce the financial burden on local government councils by the numerous district heads," he said.

He lamented the creation of more districts from over 2000, saying it increased the number of district heads along with increased personnel cost.

This was followed by employment of 2,700 employees for district offices, a situation which saw local government councils expended huge funds on nearly 5,000 persons, he added.
