Politics Kaduna Steel Agency Pressurizes FG to Award N809m Contract to 'Corrupt' Firm

The National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency, NSRMEA in Kaduna, has been exposed for pressurizing the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to award a contract worth N809m to Lasafa Limited.

The BPP had disqualified the firm earlier for alleged fraud, officials said.

NSRMEA, a parastatal of the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, had requested a certificate of “No Objection” from BPP to waive contract rules and allow the award of the contract for the acquisition of two drill rigs worth N809m.

The BPP expressed “gross displeasure” at NSRMEA’s insistence on selecting Lasafa Limited for the contract, despite its failing to meet up to required conditions.

The Minister of Steel and Mines Development, Kayode Fayemi, a fortnight ago said he was neither aware of the contract, nor the issue involving the BPP and Lasafa Limited.
