Sports Kanu Nwankwo Charges Home Based Eagles To Go For Gold

Former Nigerian international, Kanu Nwankwo, has commended the home-based Super Eagles for thrashing the Menas of Niger 4-1 at the ongoing Rwanda 2016 African Nations Championship on Monday night, but has also warned them to keep the momentum going.

Nigeria kicked off their 2016 CHAN championship campaign with a bang, after finishing third in the last edition, with 21-year old Chisom Chikatara coming off the bench to become the second player in the history of the tournament to score hattrick, while Osas Okorocompleted Nigeria's four goals, but Zakari Adebayor got a consolation for Niger.

The win put Nigeria on top of Group C with the three points and in a good stead to advance to the quarter-finals, with Tunisia and Guinea on one point each, following their 2-2 draw.

Kanu, an Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medallist, congratulated Oliseh for winning his first game in a tournament since resuming as Eagles coach in July 2015, and the team for starting on a winning note in Rwanda.

“Congrats Oliseh and our team. That’s the way to play your first game. So let’s keep it going and be focused till the end of the competition,” Kanu wrote on his Twitter handle.
