Sports Keshi fires two backroom staff appointed by the NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) and Stephen Keshi are believed to have had their first disagreement since the latter resumed duties as Super Eagles manager.

Keshi on his comeback, laid off some of the backroom staff appointed by the NFF, and brought back his own men.

The NFF appointed Toyin Ibitoye as the media officer of the Super Eagles last month, but Keshi brought back Ben Alaiya, discarding the Channels Sports Journalist.

The other appointment that didn't go down well with Keshi, was that of ex-international, Garba Lawal whom the NFF made the team's coordinator.

Both Keshi and Lawal don't see eye to eye, especially considering Lawal's outspoken criticisms when the Super Eagles didn't play well in the past.

“It clearly shows that Keshi is now more powerful than the NFF, his supposed employers,” an official of the NFF was quoted as saying by Vanguard Sports.

“Although, a coach has the right to appoint his technical assistants, in Nigeria, appointment of other backroom staff like team coordinator, media officer is the duty of the NFF.”

“Keshi is not the type to hold a grudge but I can tell you he wants Garba Lawal out,” a source said.

“He is not asking for Emmanuel Attah to be re-appointed just anybody, not Garba Lawal who devoted all of his time working against Keshi.”
