On Wednesday evening at about 8:30pm multiple explosions went off at near the Folawiyo Energy Depot along Creek Road n the Apapa of Lagos state.

The initial report published by Vanguard, claimed that the explosions were triggered by an explosive laden vehicle. However, we may have found reasons to doubt the report though not discard it totally.

According to The Sun, Public Relations Officer, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said the explosion was caused by gas cylinders and not bombs as suspected.

An eyewitness who spoke to The Sun disagrees with NEMA, "I had closed for the day and was waiting for bus at the Alex Junction, when I suddenly there was this earthquake. The ground literally shook and debris was flying up and down.

"We saw a lady dressed in Hijab flee and enter a car that was parked strategically at Alex Junction. Minutes after the first explosion occurred, the second one happened at that same junction I was standing by", the eyewitness claimed.

PUNCH on its part is reporting that two petrol tankers were involved in the explosions. The trucks were said to have caught fire after they exploded.

Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, is quoted saying, "I learnt that a tanker carrying fuel burst into flames. The Divisional Police Officer of the area and other policemen are at the scene of the incident".

Director, State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, also said it was a gas explosion and not a suicide bombing as claimed by some eyewitnesses.

So far, only four persons have been confirmed dead from the incident although scores were said to be injured. Whether or not the Lagos Explosion was an accident or act of terrorism we may never know.
