The authorities in Lagos state have arrested over ten people for violating the anti street-hawking law. The law prohibits hawking on Lagos streets and roads.

The hawkers were arrested in Maryland, Oshodi, Ikeja, and Ojota areas of the state by Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI officials on Monday.

The KAIMarshal General, Mr. Amusat Jimoh, said the arrested offenders would be prosecuted.

This is in line with Section One of the Lagos State State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003, which restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis, he said.

Buyers were not arrested? I am not sure the offenders (all together) would be able to pay the N90, 000 fine... Not such a good way to go for Lagos state government. Just wondering if some of these government officials have not traded on the streets before? Can they entirely rule street trading out of their 'poor stories' and how they survived the odd? The activities of these young, enterprising Nigerians are some of what make Lagos, a mega, & commercial city.
