In 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari got into power by promising to fight corruption in Nigeria among other things.

The journey since then has seen lots of twists and turns, with many people agreeing and others disagreeing that the anti-corruption fight has truly been effective.

PDP members especially disagreed that Buhari is actually fighting corruption. According to them, the president is only prosecuting members of the PDP and those it perceives as enemies.

Perhaps those PDP members who disagreed and many others, based their opinions and beliefs on the fact that several members of the president's cabinet have been formally accused of corruption and corrupt practices.

Who are they?

Tukur Buratai (Chief of Army Staff)
The ex Director of Procurement at Divisional HQs reportedly bought 2 houses worth $1.5m in Dubia in 2013. He said he paid for the property through instalments, but how did he get $1.5m?

Abdulrahman Dambazau (Interior Minister)
He was the Chief of Army Staff from 2008-2010. Buhari set up a committee to audit defence equipment procurement from 2007-2015. The report released covered only from 2011 to 2015, exempting Dambazau's term.

Information Minister Lai Mohammed said the rest of the report will be revealed in due time but the matter seems to have died down. Why is FG mum on such issue?

Usani Uguru Usani (Minister of Niger Delta Affairs)
The ex Cross River Agric, Water and Rural Development Commissioner (1997-1999) was indicted for financial impropriety of about N16m in 1999.

His indictment was announced by a FG gazette and he never challenged it in court.

Abba Kyari (Buhari's Chief of Staff)
Believed to have received a N500m bribe from MTN to influence FG to reduce a hefty ban placed on the telecoms firm.

Godwin Emefiele (Central Bank Governor)
Nigeria has almost 11 FX markets with different exchange rates, which gives room for round-tripping and corruption.

Amaju Pinnick (President, NFF)
FIFA stopped giving grants to Nigeria after it said it found traces of corruption in the way previous money were spent, under Pinnick.

Babachir David Lawal ( Secretary to the Government of the Federation)
Indicted of corruption by the senate. He reportedly influenced contracts for IDPs and then awarded them to his company, Rholavision Engineering Limited. He has been suspended.
