President Muhammadu Buhari is well known for his travels and in 2017, Nigeria’s first citizen ha not failed in his habit of traverse. While some parts of the country are in turmoil, urgent need of his visit, President Buhari has opted to make visit to 3 countries in his first 23 days in 2017.

Gambia: Before the impasse in The Gambia died down, President Buhari has been the Chief mediator in the electoral crisis that rocked the West African state following the refusal of former President Yahya Jammeh to exit office for Adama Barrow. President Buhari of Nigeria, Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia, former Ghana President John Mahama were part of the mediation team that talked Jammeh out of office.

Ghana: January 7, President Buhari left Nigeria to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra, the nation’s capital.

United Kingdom: President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday 20 January, 2017, left Nigeria for the United Kingdom for what the Presidency described as “a short leave.” According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President would during the vacation undergo “routine medical check-up.” He said Buhari was expected to resume work on February 6. The medical check-up was the third by the President in one year.

He had earlier embarked on a six-day vacation between February 5 and 10, 2016 when he remained in London. On June 6, 2016, he embarked on another 10-day vacation to attend to an ear infection.

During his vacation in June, last year, there were reports that he had an infection in his left ear, otherwise called Meniere Disease.
