Here's some good news for console gamers.

Microsoft at its spectacular E3 event on Monday revealed a slimmer version of its Xbox One console, the Xbox One S, and also announced another new console, Project Scorpio.

Xbox One S will launch in August for $299, and Project S, which will offer virtual reality and 4K gaming will be available in December 2017.

The Xbox One S supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming, with extra levels of brightness and more colour.

It also comes with cross-platform access, Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning that gamers who buy a title for one will be able to play it on Xbox or Windows 10 PCs at no added cost.

Cross-play will also allow people to play online with others via systems of their choice.

Gamers also get updates to Xbox Live, including Clubs, a hangout area for gamers, and Looking for Group, where gamers can meet for online collaboration.

In addition, gamers can also decide to build a custom console controller via Xbox design lab. They can choose from 8 million different colors. The controllers will cost $79.99 with additional laser engraving costing $9.99.

One analyst said many gamers might not be ready to buy a new console so soon after the Xbox One's release. Others are of the opinion that it was a wrong time of the year to launch a new gaming console.
