Good afternoon Here are 10 things you need to know in Nigerian dailies today.


1. Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade have successfully wiped out Boko Haram terrorists from Galtha Baba, Galtha Musa, Bulakurma, Shatimari, Chukruk, Bulangaje, and Disa villages.

Army spokesman, Col Sani Usman said one Boko Haram terrorist was captured alive, while 3 motorcycles, bags of grains, flags and uniforms were recovered after the operations.

2. Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari will end importation of food items into the countnry.

Onuh, who spoke during a familiarization visit to the Biotechnology and Resource Development Centre, BIODEC, Odi in Bayelsa State, explained that the President believed that Nigeria had the capacity to attain self-sufficiency in food production.

3. People of Benue State have passed vote of no confidence of their governor, Samuel Ortom over his poor leadership style. The angry citizens lambasted Ortom for boasting on radio that he would win second term instead of concentrating on how to make the state better.

4. Aggrieved former ministers, who served under the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government, have said that the forthcoming national convention of the party may turn out to be a burial day for the former ruling party.

They said that unless the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff retraced his steps from contesting at the convention, the coffin of the party would be nailed at the event.

5. A landmine believed to have been planted by fleeing Boko Haram insurgents has killed seven returning internally displaced persons in Goniri town of Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.

The victims were said to have returned to their homes after Nigerian troops had recaptured the area.

The Yobe State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Aji Bularafa, who confirmed the incident, said that the returnees were clearing their farmlands in preparation for the cropping season when they met their untimely death due to the explosive devices buried in the farmland, killing seven of them.

6. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has declared ‘holy war’, against kidnappers and killer-herdsmen.

Speaking at the May edition of Holy Ghost Service, under the theme, Victorious Grace, Adeboye led the mammoth crowd, that included Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to pray against shedding of blood and kidnapping across the country.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has given a fresh order to the military to crush a new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which has been attacking oil installations in the region.

Buhari gave the directive on Friday, following the group’s attack on Chevron’s platform in Warri, Delta State, on Thursday and its blowing up of pipelines linking Warri and Kaduna refineries on Friday.

8. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has described as a display of executive rascality the invasion of the residence of former minister of aviation, Femi Fani Kayode by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Fayose said it was wrong for the EFCC to have held occupants of Fani-Kayode’s residence hostage for eight hours despite that he was only invited to come to the EFCC office on Monday.

9. President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday travel to London to participate in the International Anti-Corruption Summit.

Buhari as an internationally recognised leader in the global fight against corruption will play a prominent part in the summit, which will be hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron of Great Britain with many other Heads of State and Government in attendance.

10. Ace juju music legend, King Sunny Ade, has declared that he is alive and healthy.

KSA, as he is fondly called was reacting to the social media report that he was dead after battling with a strange ailment.]
