The Fulani Herdsmen crisis remains a major issue in Nigeria. So far, thousands have been killed and many more have been sent packing from their homes, and communities. President Buhari-led government does not appear willing to initiate any forceful action against them. Rather, they are requesting for pieces of land from states in order to provide the rampaging herdsmen with permanent feeding ground. But amid these crises, some state governors have taken up action against the herders, either forcefully or peacefully. Here is a look at these governors.

1. Governor Abiola Ajimobi – (Oyo State): Recently, the Oyo State Police Command averted a communal clash that could have turned bloody between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Agbanda village, Ikoyi Ile in Ogbomosho. The Police chief appealed to the farmers and Fulani settlers to allow peace reign and warned that any further breach of order would not be tolerated.

The State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, also cautioned that the use of military might be considered in the bid to end herdsmen and farmers face-off that has claimed many lives in some parts of the Nigeria. He gave the warning last month when the Chief of Army Staff’s Task Force on herdsmen and farmers crisis paid him a visit.

2. Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti State): The controversial Ekiti state chief executive in May 2016 commissioned hunters to defend themselves against the "Unknown Herdsmen" that killed two people and wounded many others in Oke-Ako, town in Ikole Local Government Area of the State.
He said he will provide anything they need to protect them and that he is behind them. According to him, “I will not fold my hands while armed herdsmen invade communities in Ekiti, killing people and destroying farmlands at will, like they did in other states. Fayose is one of Nigeria's most outspoken governor.

3. Dr. Samuel Ortom (Benue State): Benue state governor, Dr Samuel Ortom recently said that the brutal attacks of fulani herders in the state is beyond his power as the state's chief executive, adding that he will have a talk to President Buhari on why his people were still being attacked despite the presence of military personnel in the area.

4. Governor Willie Obiano: Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State paid a compensation of about 70 cows to 'appease' the herdsmen in the state. The cows were allegedly killed by a host community of Umumbo in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state. The governor also paid compensation to a community in the state whose farmlands were invaded by herdsmen.

5. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
- Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State bursted into tears when he visited Ukpabi, Nimbo, in Uzo-Uwani local government area of the state. It was after the community was attacked, leading to the reported death of 21 persons. The Governor, also declared two days fasting and prayer in the State, asking residents to commit the situation into God’s hand.
“It calls for sober reflection; this is a trying period, not just for this community but for all of us.' he said.
